cloudgaming

I think you should run this by the folks at...oh... Intel, Microsoft, Nvidia, AMD, etc... they might have something to say about that.

Against all the odds, and contrary to some of the world’s greatest network and software engineers, OnLive has proved that cloud gaming is possible. Exact figures, as always, are hard to come by, but as of November 2011 OnLive apparently had “tens of millions” of users in the US and UK.

While no one is ever going to claim that the OnLive experience is as good as glorious can’t-hear-yourself-think-over-the-GPU-fan desktop and console gaming, for many gamers it is good enough. For hardcore gamers, OnLive’s 150-250ms latency and 720p resolution is akin to gouging your eyes out, but for almost everyone else — i.e. most console gamers, and almost every social gamer — it is just fine. If you haven’t given cloud gaming a try, visit OnLive and sign up for a free trial; it still blows my mind that it takes just a split second to send your mouse movements to an Onlive data center, compute the next frame, render it, encode it, and send it back to you.

Diablo-3-Whimsyshire1

I didn't learn squat from playing Diablo III. Well, that's not true. I did learn that if I use a big enough hammer, I can throttle anything in my way!

Who says educational games have to be boring? I’ve learned a lot more than I expected this week from Blizzard Entertainment’s release of Diablo III. Here are the top five tidbits…
1. PC gaming is alive and well

There’s a lot to complain about regarding how Diablo III‘s launch was handled (ahem, see the next item), but one thing it proves is that reports of the PC’s death as an original gaming platform remain greatly exaggerated. One reason so many people get down on running games on computers is because of how many games aren’t designed to actually run on them. They’re designed to run on consoles and computers, which isn’t remotely the same thing and, at least to me, isn’t remotely as much fun. (I “love” games like DiRT 3 that don’t have basic mouse support, or Batman: Arkham City, which gives you no way to change graphics detail settings in-game.)

diablo3aBlizzard Entertainment apologized for issues surrounding the launch of Diablo III and said that it would delay the launch of its real-money auction house until everything was back in order.

Already frustrated by the game's requirement for a persistent online connection, Blizzard angered many after it was forced to take down the game's servers for maintenance the day of the launch. Gamers turned one of the error codes, "Error 37," into an Internet meme.

"To that end, we'd also like to say that we've been humbled by your enthusiasm – and we sincerely regret that your crusade to bring down the Lord of Terror was thwarted not by mobs of demons, but by mortal infrastructure," Blizzard wrote in a note of apology late Wednesday night, Pacific time. "As many of you are aware, technical issues occurring within hours after the game's launch led to players experiencing error messages and difficulty logging in.

Diablo-3-Whimsyshire1

Well alright then! Now all I have to do is figure out how to get my armor on. God, I woud have SO sucked back in the "day" when you had to wear armor.

Players have discovered the rumoured Diablo 3 secret level only a few days after the game’s release. It’s called Whimsyshire, and it’s a playful poke in the ribs for anyone who accused the game of being too colourful back when its art style was originally unveiled. Whimsyshire is a neon-green children’s cartoon complete with rainbows and playful little happy clouds. Hooray!

The portal to Whimsyshire is a glowing rainbow crevasse that can be unlocked during Act 1 of the game, provided that you’ve collected the right ingredients from elsewhere. Enemies range from ponies to Cuddle Bears, but don’t be fooled: it’s equivalent to an Act 4 dungeon and it’ll turn your fresh character into a brightly-coloured smear without a second thought.
