Apple Logo 3Really... people are pissed that a computer can't speak back to them? Really?

Apple Inc. is defending its voice-recognition software Siri — she of the iPhone 4S — against claims that it doesn’t perform as advertised.

A cluster of lawsuits seeking class action status in Oakland, Calif., allege that iPhone 4S commercials and company statements about the phone were false and misleading. Siri, they say, is brilliant on TV, but she’s dim in reality.

Remember that ‘Rock God’ commercial? One of the plaintiffs claims he couldn’t replicate it. Another says that when he asked for directions to a certain place, or to locate a store, Siri either didn’t understand or, after a long time, responded with the wrong answer.

ios-5-0-1-update

Apple has decided you needed an update to your iPhone and/or iPad.

Not a lot seems to be addressed in this update, but it seems like enough to get it installed and see what else I can find that's new.

Apple has released an update to iOS that fixes a number of minor (but annoying) bugs within the operating system. The update was just released on Monday afternoon (at least for those of us on the eastern half of the US) and includes fixes for iPads and iPhones.

According to Apple, iOS 5.1.1 improves the reliability of the HDR photo option when you try to take photos using the Camera app's shortcut from the lock screen. (This one drives me the most crazy). It also fixes some AirPlay video bugs that affected playback "in some circumstances," improves the reliability of syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List, and fixes a bug that caused iTunes or the App Store to display an error saying "Unable to purchase" when the purchase was successful after all. The one fix that specifically affects the iPad is one that prevented third-gen iPads from switching easily between 2G and 3G networks.

Apple [NASDAQ: AAPL] iOS 6 rumors are swirling again as speculation on the iPhone 5, iTunes 11, OS X Mountain Lion, and iCloud integration ramps up. iOS 6 is anticipated to be the next mobile operating system that Apple releases and many analysts  contend that Apple will unleash it this summer at WWDC–the company’s World Wide Developer’s Conference being held in early June.

iOS 6 Release Date:

Many sources predict that iOS 6 will be released prior to the iPhone 5 and, with the WWDC being held on June 11th, many Apple insiders are picking that date for the mobile operating system to launch.  But, the guaranteed release of OS X Mountain Lion, which was distributed to developers earlier this year, other analysts are skeptical of the likelihood that we will see two major announcements from Apple in such a short time period.

apple-jobs-money-quartersWow... was this an announcement or what?

With $97.6 billion in cash reserves and a record weekend of new iPad sales now just behind it, Apple has announced its first share-repurchasing and dividend program since 1995.

Maintaining investor relations had not been Steve Job’s primary concern, but with Tim Cook stepping up to replace Jobs (and Disney’s chief executive, Bob Iger, taking Job’s place on the board), the company’s structure will begin to distribute regular returns in dividends. The strategy doesn’t come as a surprise to analysts, who have suggested that Apple’s move has in part been influenced by Iger, seeing as how Disney been a proponent for dividends.
