Android Phones

android-logo2I use one of them and I try and only use one extra besides what Google offers. If I use more, I get all kinds of weird issues with one app trying to install over another installed (and updated app) because its service was not the one that installed the original application. I run into this a lot with Amazon apps I have installed.

Google’s Android Market isn’t the only place you can get Android apps. Whether you’re looking for free paid apps, social recommendations or an app store to replace a missing Android Market, you have a lot of choice.

Each app store is completely legit — the ones that offer free apps pay the developer for the privilege. You may even have an alternative app store on your device already if you’re an Opera user.

Razr-MAXXI have the droid MAXX and I LOVE IT! Let me say this again... I have the DROID MAXX and I love it! It truly lasts me the ALL DAY! Best phone on the market now (if you ask me.) I can actually use it!

If you head to a Verizon Wireless store today looking to purchase an Android smartphone, you’re very likely going to be inundated by offers to purchase Verizon’s own unique DROID line. I’m here to tell you that the current top choices for these Motorola-made smartphones aren’t necessarily your best choice for Android or 4G-laden devices – in fact they’re not even really your best choice for Motorola-made devices on Verizon. slide to lock“I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this.”

This is what Steve Jobs thought of Android, as recounted in Walter Isaacson’s biography of the late Apple CEO. Since these words were uttered, Apple has been involved in an intense legal battle with Google and other device makers over Android, and it seems that the courts are siding with Apple that Android is indeed ‘a stolen product.’

The ’slide to unlock’ mechanism is a feature that was put into the Android mobile platform, and now a German court has ruled that Motorola’s use of this on certain devices infringes on Apple’s patent. This is bad news for Android because it could mean that Android device sales in Germany could be halted.

Earlier this week, Motorola said that the delay in launching Android 4.0 mainly rests on Google's shoulders, as the company developed the platform based around one hardware set and is currently writing code that will make Ice Cream Sandwich edible on all hardware configurations. Motorola also released its upgrade schedule on Wednesday, clearly showing why devices have yet to receive the v4.0 upgrade.

Yet despite this, Taiwan-based supply chain makers claim that Google will launch Android 5.0 "Jelly Bean" -- notice it doesn't even follow the frozen treat theme -- as early as 2Q12 because the adoption of Ice Cream Sandwich has fallen short of original expectations. They also claim Google will launch Jelly Bean in this specific timeframe so that it will be ready for Windows 8 this fall.

android-5-jellybeanAre you digging Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich? Well, don't get too comfortable. Citing Taiwan-based supply chain makers, the rumor-mongers at DigiTimes report that Google is pushing out the tablet-friendlier Android 5.0 "Jelly Bean" version of its Android operating system in the second quarter of this year.

Even though Ice Cream Sandwich just came out of its wrapper, the looming release of Windows 8 has supposedly inspired Google to speed up its release schedule. DigiTimes also cites the less-than-stellar adoption of Android 4.0 as an impetus to update but, when you consider that most Android phones don't even have Ice Cream Sandwich yet and that big delays for the upgrade are expected from manufacturers like Motorola, does that come as a surprise? Give the releases some time to breathe, Google!

Whether you're ready or not, here are some of the rumored features in Android 5.0 Jelly Bean.
