GearsofWarlogoHey now... this looks tasty!

Epic has announced Gears of War 3 DLC Forces of Nature, due out on 27th March.

Forces of Nature is a collection of three new maps, each set during a natural disaster, and two remakes from previous Gears games. The new maps are Aftermath, Artillery and Cover. The remakes are Jacinto (Gears of War 2) and Raven Down (Gears of War 1).

Gears executive producer Rod Fergusson announced the DLC on GameTrailers, explaining how they work.

Aftermath is a government park after a tsunami. The map floods and quakes during gameplay, making it difficult to aim. And stealth is reduced due to players splashing through water.

Artillery is a military base ravaged by a storm during gameplay. Dust and debris makes it difficult to see, but winds can mask your approach.

And Cove is a small port the Stranded have taken over and turned into a village. A heavy layer of fog masks "just about everything". Epic described the map as very open, with long lines of sight with a "really nice" sniper nest.

xboxlive logoAgain... it's not like I have a choice.

I wanted to let you know that the team has just released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE. Starting today when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. If you are signed into LIVE already, you may be signed out and asked to accept the update and you’ll be back online in a few moments.

This update will increase performance and is part of our continued effort to provide the best possible Xbox LIVE experience. In this update, we are providing a fix to a color issue that some were experiencing, and it will be immediately notable in the dashboard. The fix is also being applied by partners to their apps on Xbox LIVE, which we expect to roll out over the coming months.

twisted-pondering

This is one of those games I have to pass on. Maybe if it's in the "for sale bin", that would be terrific.

Sitting in traffic on the way to work has led many a driver to wish his vehicle — like James Bond's heavily armed Aston Martin— could blast a path to freedom.

Video game designers David Jaffe and Scott Campbell decided to build a game on that primal feeling. Released for the original PlayStation in 1995, Twisted Metal put players behind the wheel of weaponized vehicles and spawned a series of million-selling sequels.

"The concept is universal," says Dan Hsu, editor in chief of GamesBeat on VentureBeat.com. "Who doesn't want to mount big weapons on cars and blow other people up?"

The franchise's first full-fledged new entry in a decade, Twisted Metal ($60, out today, for PS3, ages 17-up), amps the vehicular combat action up to high-definition.

skyrim logo small 1What about the PC patch? HEY!

The latest patch for Skyrim hit the PC earlier this month, and it looks as though Xbox 360 and PS3 players will be able to join in on the bug-squashed action soon. According to Bethesda, the Xbox 360 version of update 1.4 should be going up on Xbox Live tomorrow morning, and its PS3 counterpart could be arriving sometime tomorrow as well.

For a complete look at what the update fixes, check out our earlier story. Otherwise, here are some of the highlights:

    - Fixed issue where weapon racks and plaques would not work correctly in player’s house if player immediately visits their house before purchasing any furnishing.
    - Bows and daggers will display properly when placed on weapon racks
    - Fixed issue where transforming back to human from werewolf would occasionally not fail
    - Fixed rare issue in “To Kill an Empire” where an NPC would fail to die properly

kinect-blackMicrosoft has now officially extended its Kinect motion gesture and voice control to the PC. After releasing PC beta SDKs that worked with the Xbox 360 version of the device, Microsoft today launched the official Kinect for Windows product along with the 1.0 version of the Kinect for Windows SDK and runtime files.

As previously announced, the Kinect for Windows device is priced at $249, which is $100 more than the current Xbox 360 version. Microsoft has already said the lower price of the Xbox 360 model is "subsidized by consumers buying a number of Kinect games, subscribing to Xbox LIVE, and making other transactions associated with the Xbox 360 ecosystem." Microsoft will later sell the Kinect for Windows version for $149 but only for qualified educational organizations.

The 1.0 SDK and runtime files for Kinect for Windows have a number of improvements compared to the previous beta versions.
